What is YPAI Voice?
YPAI Voice is a research tool for collecting audio data for academic and professional linguistics studies. It allows participants to record their voices in response to structured prompts and upload recordings to secure cloud storage.
Is YPAI Voice free?
Yes, YPAI Voice is completely free to download and use. There are no in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Who can use YPAI Voice?
YPAI Voice is designed for research participants who have been invited by a study coordinator. You must be 18 years or older and have a valid Participant ID to use the app.
How do I get a Participant ID?
Participant IDs are provided by research coordinators when you are recruited for a study. Common recruitment platforms include Prolific, CloudResearch, and university research labs.
What permissions does the app need?
YPAI Voice requires:
- Microphone access: To record your voice
- Storage access: To save recordings temporarily
- Internet access: To upload recordings
The app does NOT access location, camera, contacts, or phone calls.
What happens to my recordings?
Your recordings are uploaded to Cloudflare R2 cloud storage (EU region) and used for academic research and AI model training (anonymized). They are shared with research partners under strict Data Processing Agreements. See our Privacy Policy for complete details.
Can I delete my recordings?
Yes, you can request deletion by emailing [email protected] with your Participant ID. We will process deletion requests within 30 days per GDPR.
Troubleshooting Guide
App won't record my voice
Possible solutions:
- Enable microphone permission: Settings β Apps β YPAI Voice β Permissions
- Close other apps using the microphone
- Test microphone with Android's built-in voice recorder
- Restart the app or reinstall from Google Play
Uploads keep failing
Possible solutions:
- Check Wi-Fi or mobile data connection
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data
- Move closer to Wi-Fi router
- Wait 10-15 minutes and retry (server may be busy)
App crashes or freezes
Possible fixes:
- Update the app via Google Play
- Clear app cache: Settings β Apps β YPAI Voice β Storage β Clear Cache
- Restart your device
- Reinstall the app
I forgot my Participant ID
Solution:
- Check your recruitment email (from Prolific, CloudResearch, etc.)
- Contact the research coordinator who invited you
- YPAI support cannot retrieve or reset Participant IDs
